The renovation of the «Grotto with Pool» fountain in Istanbul Park, Odessa has commenced. This artificial structure was established in the late 19th century on the slopes of Primorsky Boulevard. Initially, it functioned as a drainage system for water flowing from a nearby monument-fountain. With the development of the water supply system, this need was eliminated, and the grotto became a part of the park.
During the 2017 renovation, this landmark was transformed into a fountain and then transferred to the Municipal Enterprise «Service Center» for maintenance.
Over the seven years following the renovation, the grotto has been affected by environmental factors. Rain and snow from the slopes of Primorsky Boulevard have compromised the waterproofing layer of the fountain basin.
Key works planned during the capital repair include clearing the area of debris, managing stormwater runoff from the fountain's perimeter, conducting waterproofing works, and tiling the fountain basin.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
