On February 1, 2025, the renowned Odessa satirist Valeriy Isaakovich Khait passed away at the age of 85. 

His life was intricately connected to Odessa, literature, and humor.

Valeriy Isaakovich was a prominent figure known for:
- serving as the vice president of the Worldwide Club of Odessa residents since 1990; 
- being one of the founders of the Odessa Humor Festival;
- the editor-in-chief of the humor magazine «Fountain»;
- the creator and host of the TV show «Fountain Club» on the 1+1 channel; 
- captain of the legendary KVN teams in Odessa; 
- a recipient of various literary awards and compiler of publications showcasing Odessa's humor; 
- initiating the Odessa International Literary Prize named after Isaac Babel and the establishment of a monument to the writer.

The Odessa City Council extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the talented Odessa writer, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of Odessans.
