The Odesa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet has unveiled a revamped version of the opera «“Zaporozhets beyond the Danube” presented in a fresh format that emphasizes modernity and innovation.

Details of the new production

This production features modern lighting techniques and minimalist stage design. Interactive video elements transport the audience from the Cossack era to the present day.

The costumes impress with their blend of traditional Ukrainian motifs and innovative shapes and materials. Designers have moved away from classic images, creating stylish outfits that embody the spirit of the Cossack era through a contemporary lens.

The choreography retains the energy of folk dances while avoiding stereotypical movements. An original dance style combines elements of contemporary ballet and ethnic art, highlighting the patriotic themes of the opera.

The main goal of the project is to convey the story of the Cossacks and their struggle for freedom to modern viewers, preserving the authenticity of the original work. The production appeals to the values of independence and bravery, emphasizing their relevance today.
