In Regensburg, a new exhibition titled "The Heritage of Germans in Ukraine and Odessa" has opened at UNESCO.

This exhibition, brought from Odessa, features a collection of historical documents that illustrate the lives of German colonists in the Odessa region since the early 19th century and their impact on the development of Odessa and the surrounding areas.

The exhibition is divided into three sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical part was prepared by the renowned historian Alexander Surilov, while the artistic section showcases works by Odessa artist Tatyana Romanenko.

The exhibition also highlights the cooperation between the two cities and the support Regensburg has provided to Odessa during the war.

This exhibition was organized with the support of the Department of Culture from Odessa and the Department of Culture from Regensburg.

At the opening of the exhibition, both mayors were present along with historians, scholars, politicians, and representatives of the creative community, as well as Odessa residents living in Germany.

Odessa’s mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, expressed gratitude for the support provided to Odessa.

"Soon we will mark a thousand days of war, a thousand days of our resilient defense, and the incredible support from European countries, particularly from Regensburg", - said Gennady Trukhanov.

He emphasized that Odessa has become a refuge for tens of thousands of displaced people, just as it was when Ukrainians, Germans, Jews, Greeks, Armenians, Poles, and many other peoples found their home along the shores of the Black Sea. Each contributed to the culture and development of our city, creating the unique character that makes Odessa special today.

"Germany has significantly influenced the agricultural development of our region, which in turn has affected the growth of our ports and infrastructure. We value this contribution, remember it, and continue to foster our relationships in various areas. Today we are here to thank you by uncovering interesting, previously unknown chapters of our shared history", - noted the mayor of Odessa.

Today, our ties with Regensburg are as strong as our faith in victory, love for freedom, and the independence of Ukraine. We believe in a better future and know that together we can overcome any challenges.
