On October 21, 2024, acting Mayor of Odessa, Oleksandr Filatov, met with a delegation from the Hellenic Republic, led by Dimitrios Skalkos, Secretary General of International Economic Relations of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in the city, bilateral cooperation, and plans for the reconstruction of Odessa amidst the war.

“We are very grateful for your visit. It takes great courage to come to a country that is at war. We appreciate the support Greece provides to Ukraine, particularly Odessa,” stated Oleksandr Filatov.

“Our visit is not an act of bravery, as true courage is living as you do, continuing to develop the city during wartime. We feel it is our moral duty to support you,” said Mr. Skalkos.

The Greek delegation confirmed its readiness to support restoration projects and assist in Ukraine's recovery. The work of the Greece-Ukraine Friendship Parliamentary Group, which actively promotes cooperation between the two countries, was specifically noted.

In August 2023, the city of Corfu (Corfu Island, Hellenic Republic) hosted a group of Odessa children for recreation and healing. From August 28 to September 11, 2024, a group of 44 children and 5 escorts from Odessa enjoyed their stay at a camp operated by the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and all of Greece (Avlonas, near Athens). Currently, efforts are underway to secure humanitarian aid from the Hellenic Republic in the form of work clothing for the city’s utilities.
