A new chapter of cooperation is opening between Odessa and Nova Odessa in Brazil. Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, expressed hope for a long-lasting partnership between the cities.
«The number of our friends is increasing every year. This is especially valuable during wartime when international support is crucial. We are open to further developing relations with Nova Odessa. The shared history of our cities naturally leads to partnership, and I am genuinely surprised it wasn’t established sooner,» noted Gennady Trukhanov.
The history of Nova Odessa begins in Odessa. The city was founded on May 24, 1905, by the Minister of Agriculture of São Paulo, Carlos José de Arruda Botelho, following his visit to Ukrainian Odessa. The first inhabitants were settlers from our city.
During the negotiations, Gennady Trukhanov suggested to the mayor of Nova Odessa, Claudio José Schooder, to initiate the process of establishing sister city relations and to appoint an Ambassador of Odessa in Nova Odessa— a symbolic figure representing the Ukrainian city.
Representatives of the Nova Odessa municipality expressed their support for Ukraine and invited Odessa to participate in the annual Nations Fair.
Alongside Latvia, Italy, Portugal, the USA, Spain, Israel, and Japan, for the first time, a booth dedicated to Ukraine may appear at the event.
The parties also discussed preparations for significant upcoming dates - Ukraine's Independence Day and Odessa's City Day.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Brazil confirmed its readiness to actively support participation in all events together with local partners.
