A man promised a prospective student that he would influence the admissions committee in exchange for money to guarantee her entry into the first year. He faces up to five years in prison for his actions.
The police in the Odessa region, along with strategic investigation operatives, apprehended the lecturer who was attempting to bribe the student. He initially asked for $1500 as a bribe but later reduced the amount to $1000.
Authorities detained him in his office right after he received the cash, which was seized as evidence.
"Investigators have already notified the suspect of the charges against him. He could face up to five years in prison," stated Irina Yablonska, deputy head of the investigative department.
The investigation is ongoing under part 2 of article 369-2 (abuse of influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The procedural oversight is conducted by the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office.
