A fraudster in Odessa was apprehended for promising a foreigner a residency permit for $6,000. Law enforcement, in collaboration with the SBU, uncovered the criminal activities of a 47-year-old man attempting to influence officials from the State Migration Service to extend the foreigner's stay in Ukraine.
The perpetrator sought out acquaintances who were foreigners or stateless individuals in need of residency permits and convinced them of his ability to resolve their issues for a fee.
In one instance, he promised to extend a foreigner's stay for $1,000 and to secure a residency permit for $5,000, assuring them that without his involvement, it would be impossible or take a long time.
Law enforcement documented the crime after he received $6,000 and the foreigner's documents.
He is currently facing charges under Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
