The local government of Odesa is actively engaged in enhancing the sports infrastructure for people with disabilities, organizing events that promote physical activity and social inclusion for this group.
As part of the program “Support for Physical Culture and Sports in Odesa for 2024 – 2027”, activities are conducted to improve the lives of veterans and individuals with disabilities through sports involvement.
One of the significant sports events was the “Black Sea Cup” for wheelchair basketball, held in collaboration with the Odesa City Basketball Federation. Teams such as “Odesa-Basket,” “Kyiv Lions,” and “Titans” participated in the tournament.
Additionally, individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to acquire memberships for accessing sports facilities. This year, the Department of Physical Culture and Sports purchased 156 swimming pool memberships at the “Sports Academy” and 100 memberships at the “GYM” fitness club chain.
In 2024, 78 individuals with disabilities, including 30 veterans, received these memberships, while 30 individuals accessed fitness clubs, including 16 veterans.
Next year, the budget for enhancing access to sports facilities for individuals with disabilities is set to increase.
