An open training session focused on adaptive sports for veterans was held in Odessa.

This event, taking place at a local stadium, aims to support veterans through various physical activities. The open training has become a platform for recovery, interaction, and unity.

The main goal is to promote adaptive sports as a crucial element of rehabilitation, socialization, and mental health support.

Participants had the opportunity to try different activities including wheelchair basketball, as well as engage in psychosocial support activities:

  • crafting with air-dry clay,
  • creating personal resource maps,
  • board games and quizzes focused on mental health and resilience.

Adaptive sports are not just about physical activity; they represent a path to recovery and active life among like-minded individuals.

Regional coordinator of the national mental health program «How are you?» in Odessa, Anna Velichko, participated in the event. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives for fostering mental health culture in communities.

The event was organized by the NGO «Free Warriors» with financial support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM Ukraine) as part of the national mental health program «How are you?».

The coordination and implementation of the «How are you?» program initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska is conducted by the Coordinating Center of the Cabinet of Ministers / Mental Health UA with expert support from the World Health Organization.
