The mayor of Odesa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, has been honored with the 'Person of the Year - 2024' award in the 'Mayor' category. The award ceremony took place in Kyiv.

Gennadiy Trukhanov expressed his gratitude for the award, which he sees as a symbol of trust:

«I am thankful to every resident of Odesa and every Ukrainian who works daily for the benefit of their communities. This award is not just mine; it belongs to all of us, to our resilience and strength. Odesa is the only city in the world after which we affectionately say the word «Mom». Today, Odesa-Mom cares for everyone: for those who have found a second home here, for those in need of support. Odesa ranks among the top three cities providing aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is developing a powerful rehabilitation base. We are preparing the city for the wellness season and, together with veterans, have established the Council for Barrier-Free Living».

Gennadiy Trukhanov also thanked the military and invited them to Odesa for rehabilitation. The mayor shared what pains him the most:

«Words have been spoken here about how hard it is to bury comrades. I feel the same way. But now I know that there is nothing worse than burying children we pull from the rubble. I am confident: Victory will surely be ours, and every murderer, every inhuman being, will face justice – earthly, from our Heroes, and heavenly».

The nationwide program «Person of the Year» is an award recognizing professional and socially significant achievements of citizens. It was established in 1996. The «Mayor» category acknowledges community leaders who have made substantial contributions to the development of cities, improvement of infrastructure, and enhancement of residents' quality of life.
