A new format of patrolling has been officially introduced in Odesa — bicycle patrols that will operate in the city's pedestrian zones over the next few months. Police officers on bicycles will be able to respond more quickly to calls and more effectively maintain public order in the central areas.

This was reported by the National Police Department in the Odesa region. According to law enforcement, bicycle patrols will focus on traffic violations and ensuring public safety in the most frequented areas of the city.

«Bicycle patrols will respond to calls in almost all the same situations as car patrols, but they are more mobile, which is a significant advantage for working in pedestrian zones», — explained police representatives the specifics of this new patrolling format.

Police officers on bicycles will operate during the day and focus on the most problematic areas of the city. The main advantage of bicycle patrolling is significantly higher mobility compared to regular car patrols, allowing them to reach incidents faster, especially in dense urban traffic or in areas where vehicle access is restricted or impossible. Each bicycle patrol officer will be fully equipped to work independently and respond to offenses.

«Bicycle patrols will carry all necessary special equipment and appropriate administrative materials, allowing them to respond and document violations immediately», — emphasized the police regarding the capabilities of the new patrol groups.

This will allow law enforcement to create administrative protocols directly at the scene of the incident, conduct preventive conversations with citizens, and ensure prompt responses to various offenses. The bicycle patrol will serve as an additional tool for maintaining order in the tourist and recreational areas of Odesa, where traditional car patrols may be less effective due to traffic restrictions.

Residents can approach bicycle patrols with any questions regarding public order or report violations directly on-site. The experiment with bicycle patrolling will last for several months, after which a decision will be made regarding the permanent implementation of this format of police work in Odesa.
