In Odesa, the ragweed blooming season has begun. Municipal services are actively working to combat this dangerous weed, which is a strong allergen.
Common ragweed is a quarantined weed that causes significant harm not only to agriculture but also to human health.
To prevent the spread of ragweed, the Municipal Enterprise "Miskzelentrest" commenced grass cutting and additional measures a month prior to blooming. They utilize a natural preparation named "Bishofit," which is sprayed using specialized equipment (approximately 300 liters per hectare). This agent penetrates the plant through its leaves, causing it to wilt quickly, while being safe for people and the environment.
The Municipal Enterprise "Miskzelentrest" reminds that according to the "Rules of Improvement of Odesa's Territory," the responsibility for weed eradication lies with the property holders, owners, and users of buildings and plots — from businesses to private homeowners.
Compliance with improvement rules is monitored by the relevant department of the enterprise: in case of ragweed discovery, they issue orders, and in complicated situations, they compile protocols.
According to the information from the Municipal Enterprise "Miskzelentrest," as of today, no large ragweed outbreaks have been detected in the city.
Under the Law of Ukraine "On Plant Quarantine," measures to eliminate quarantined organisms on land plots are conducted by landowners and land users at their own expense. Inspectors from the control department of the Municipal Enterprise "Miskzelentrest" have the authority to compile administrative protocols in case of non-compliance with the weed eradication requirements, which are submitted for review to the administrative commission of the Odesa City Council.
Protocols are compiled in accordance with Article 152 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, which may result in fines: for individuals - from 340 UAH to 1360 UAH, for officials and business entities - from 850 UAH to 1700 UAH.
