On October 1st, Ukraine celebrates Defenders Day.
On this day, we honor the modern defenders and heroes of Ukraine from various eras. Today's warriors continue to carry forward the millennia-old military traditions of the Ukrainian people.
We express our gratitude to all those who defend our independence and remember everyone who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine.
In Odesa, flowers were laid at the Memorial to the Fighters for Ukraine in memory of the fallen.
The memorial event was attended by local authorities, law enforcement, military members, veterans, and citizens of Odesa.

Defenders Day was established in 2014 to honor the bravery and heroism of those who protect the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This day is linked to the Feast of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, revered by the Cossacks. Modern defenders uphold and develop Cossack traditions.
The war shapes the Ukrainian nation, and the heroism and bravery of today's defenders have earned the highest trust from the people. The Ukrainian army has become one of the most capable in the world and continues to serve as Europe's shield. It is our duty to be a strong support for our army and to help bring victory closer.
