On September 19, a round table was held in Odesa to discuss the partnership between Ukraine and Moldova. The event gathered local government representatives, experts, diplomats, and community leaders to address critical challenges and opportunities in grant activities.
Odesa's mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, expressed gratitude to Moldova for its incredible support during the war and emphasized that Odesa is ready to share experiences and initiate joint projects with Moldovan cities.
“We are united not just by geography but by a shared history, common challenges, and values. We are more than just neighbors; we share a common goal: a European future,” said Gennady Trukhanov.
Significant attention was given to community safety and population protection.
“Among the common challenges is the threat posed by the Russian Federation, which affects the entire post-Soviet space. Without understanding the military component, no country can ensure stability,” supported Trukhanov by Vitaly Barvinenko, head of the Odesa District Council and director of the Danube Research Institute.
It was repeatedly stated at the forum that security and European integration are not just foreign policy concerns but daily work at the local level, especially in times of crisis. Thus, municipalities need to be not just partners but allies, strengthening the resilience of both nations.
The forum concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation between the municipalities of Ukraine and Moldova.
