The serviceman of the 808th Dniester Support Brigade, Mykhailo Korsun, has been awarded the «Golden Star» order – the highest state award given for acts of bravery. The award was presented by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as reported by the brigade's press service.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine No. 652/2025 dated August 23, 2025, Senior Soldier Mykhailo Korsun has been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for his courage and dedication in defending the nation.
«Thanks to patriots like Mykhailo, Ukraine has been able to preserve its independence. For four years, our country has been fighting against Russian aggression. I am proud to have such heroes in our nation,» emphasized President Zelensky.
Mykhailo Korsun hails from Dnipro. He began his service as a volunteer in the ATO in 2014 after working at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He participated in the liberation of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
Currently, he is a driver-sapper in the 808th Dniester Support Brigade. Since August 2023, he has been carrying out combat missions in the Kherson region and later in Kursk.
«When your son serves in the army, you perceive the situation differently. You look at the young fighters and feel responsible for them as if they were your own children. At my age, I don’t feel old,» Mykhailo recounted in an interview.
«After the explosion in our neighborhood that claimed many children's lives, I made a definitive decision to fight. The enemy has no morals and spares no one.»
In March 2025, while carrying out an evacuation mission, Mykhailo's vehicle was attacked by an enemy drone. Despite being injured, he saved the lives of his comrades by maneuvering the vehicle to safety.
Later, during the evacuation, he successfully transported the first group of wounded. Without waiting for medical assistance, Mykhailo headed out for another mission. He saved about 30 servicemen, 22 of whom required urgent medical attention.
However, Mykhailo does not consider himself a hero:
«I simply fulfilled my duty. We all must do what is necessary to protect our country,» he noted.
When asked what advice he would give to newcomers, he said: «Everyone should ask themselves whether they are ready to defend their country. This is our shared responsibility!»
