In 2024, a city program aims to replace 91 elevators, contingent on funding from the city budget. Additionally, funds have already been allocated to repair 44 elevators that have been in service for over 25 years.
The replacement of a single elevator costs the city budget between 1.5 to 2.3 million UAH, depending on the building's height and the elevator's load capacity. Typically, it takes up to two months to repair one elevator.
According to the City Utility Department, new elevators have been installed in residential buildings at the following addresses: Nebesnoi Sotni St., 6; Hlodan Family St. (Ilfa and Petrov), 17 and 29; Academik Zabolotny St., 49; Prince Yaroslav the Wise Ave. (Akademik Hlushko), 34 and 11; and Lustdorf Road, 164.
Experts state that modern elevators are 40% more energy-efficient. In case of power outages, emergency evacuation of people is planned, allowing residents to safely reach the nearest floor, minimizing the risk of getting stuck in the elevator shaft.
Since 2016, more than 1,500 elevators have been replaced in Odessa. The elevator restoration program was temporarily halted due to the war, but work has resumed as of early 2024.
Note
All new elevators come equipped with modern technology: frequency regulation and door control systems that ensure smooth opening and closing of doors; a motion control system that manages the main hoist motor, extending its lifespan. This equipment allows for the use of lower-power electric motors, saving energy and reducing strain on the elevator's structural elements while enhancing user comfort.
The cabins of all upgraded and replaced elevators are lined with vandal-proof materials, providing excellent protection against mechanical damage. The cabins are also equipped with vandal-resistant lights and metal buttons that cannot be ignited or removed from the panel. Mirrors and handrails are installed in all elevators.
